Anouk ha cominciato ad avere la passione per la musica fin da piccola perché sua madre era (ed è) una cantante blues. Anouk cominciò a cantare nei Shotgun Wedding, incontrando così Barry Hay, cantante dei Golden Earring ed amico del suo ex marito Edwin Jansen). Fin dall'inizio, sentendola cantare, Hay sostenne che Anouk avesse molto talento e decise di scriverle alcune canzoni; una di queste era Mood Indigo, scritta in collaborazione con George Kooymans (voce e chitarra dei Golden Earring).
In seguito incontrò Bart van Veen, il suo co-produttore che le scrisse alcune nuove canzoni. Il 5 settembre, 1997, uscì il suo secondo singolo, Nobody's Wife, che rimase ai primi posti delle classifiche olandesi per un paio di settimane. Il suo album di debutto Together Alone, uscito lo stesso anno, ebbe un grande successo.
Nel 1998, Anouk vinse due awards dalla stazione musicale olandese TMF (The Music Factory) e l'Edison Award. Durante l'estate suonò in vari festival, compresi il Pinkpop e il Parkpop.
Il suo secondo album Urban Solitude, uscì nel Novembre 1999, con incluso il singolo R U Kiddin' Me (con il quale raggiunse la vetta della classifica olandese.)
Poco tempo dopo andò negli Stati Uniti per trattare con la sua etichetta americana (Sony), ma tornò nei Paesi Bassi senza aver concluso nessun affare. Nel 2001 uscì il singolo Don't, e iniziò un tour per i Paesi Bassi nel Febbraio.
Nel marzo 2001 pubblicò il suo terzo album Lost Tracks, contente versioni acustiche delle canzoni degli altri album e vari duetti con la cantante degli K's Choice, Sarah Bettens. Vinse il Popprijs Award nel 2001 e un Golden Harp nel 2003.
Nel Novembre 2002 pubblicò il quarto album Graduated Fool, che è l'album più rock della carriera di Anouk, portandola a suonare al Graduated Fool Tour.
Nel 2004 pubblicò il suo quinto album, Hotel New York, da cui sono stati estratti quattro singoli: Girl, Lost, Jerusalem e One Word.
Anouk andò nell'Ohio nel Dicembre 2005, ma prima di partire ha tenuto due concerti ad Anversa, (Belgio) e 4 concerti a Ahoy Rotterdam, nei Paesi Bassi.
Il giorno del suo compleanno, l'8 aprile 2006, ha eseguito una performance davanti a un pubblico di pochi privilegiati al Melkweg ad Amsterdam.
Sabato 20 Maggio Anouk ha suonato all'Heineken Music Hall ad Amsterdam.
Il 1 settembre 2007, sul sito ufficiale della cantante è uscita la notizia che Anouk al momento sta lavorando su un nuovo album, che dovrebbe uscire entro fine anno in Olanda (nulla si sa ancora su una distribuzione più ampia), supportato da un tour nei primi mesi del 2008. Fonte: Wikipedia

Dutch rock singer Anouk has become not only one of the most successful performers in her native The Netherlands, but has also managed to duplicate her success in much of Europe. Born on April 8, 1975 in The Hague, Anouk's mother was a singer in a blues band. By the time she was 18, Anouk had joined a local R&B band, but it was a short-lived union as she left soon after, having been accepted and subsequently attending the Rotterdam Music Academy. In 1995, Anouk started her own band, but it is at a music festival that same year that she gets her big break. She joins Barry Hay of Golden Earring on stage, singing several songs, and impresses the lead singer of the legendary Dutch band. With Golden Earring guitarist George Kooyans, Hay writes "Mood Indigo for the young singer and it is released in the fall of 1996 through Dino Records. It is a year later, though, that Anouk's career truly takes off with the release of the single "Nobody's Wife." The song is a lead-up to her debut, full-length record Together Alone, which is released in late '97. Driven by the impact of "Nobody's Wife." the album tops the charts, quickly reaching platinum status in The Netherlands. The album spawns two more hits with "It's So Hard" and the Top Ten "Sacrifice," and earns Anouk three Edison Awards, including Best Dutch Female Vocalist, in 1998. The follow-up release, issued in 1999, found Anouk incorporating ska into the first single, "R U Kiddin' Me," as well as exploring hip-hop and funk on tracks like "The Dark" and "Don't." It too is hugely successful and, in addition to strong sales, garners the singer two more Edison Awards. In 2001, Anouk released Lost Tracks, a collection of unreleased material that had been culled together.
